Background | 배경
어렸을 때부터 나는 상상하고 무언가를 만드는 걸 좋아했습니다. 길을 찾아가는 로봇을 만들기도 했고 사이클로이드를 활용해 효율성을 높인 수력발전기를 만들었습니다. 나중에는 놀이기구를 설계하고 직접 만들어보고 싶었고, 눈이 얼지 않아 미끄러지지않는 도로를 만들고 싶었으며, 보기만 해도 기분이 좋아지는 건축물을 짓고 싶었습니다.
하지만 이런 것들을 혼자 해내기엔 어려움이 많았습니다. 그때 나는 인공지능을 접하게 되었고, 내가 상상했던 것들을 비교적 쉽고 빠르게 구현하고 사용해볼 수 있다는 점에서 매력을 느꼈습니다.
그렇게 인공지능에 빠져들었고, 결국 컴퓨터 비전 엔지니어로 일을 시작하게 되었습니다. 지금은 오프라인 공간을 분석하는 회사에서 재미있는 나날을 보내고 있습니다.
Since childhood, I have loved imagining and creating things. I built a robot that could navigate its way and even designed a hydropower generator that improved efficiency using the cycloid. Later, I dreamed of designing and building amusement rides, creating non-slippery roads that wouldn’t freeze in winter, and constructing buildings that would bring joy just by looking at them.
However, achieving these dreams on my own proved to be quite challenging. It was then that I discovered artificial intelligence. I was captivated by how it allowed me to bring my ideas to life relatively quickly and easily and even use them in practical ways.
This fascination with AI led me to delve deeper into the field, eventually becoming a computer vision engineer. Now, I am enjoying exciting days working at a company that analyzes offline spaces.
Why I Joined DVA LAB | DVA LAB에 합류한 이유
저는 “내 행동이 누군가에게 도움이 되었으면 좋겠다"라는 단순한 동기로 DVA 프로젝트에 합류하게 되었습니다.
제주도 워크샵에서 서비스를 직접 체험해본 사람이 “정말 큰 도움이 될 것 같다”라는 이야기를 들었을 때, 뿌듯함과 다른 사람들에게 더 많은 힘을 주고 싶다는 생각이 강하게 들었습니다.
저한테 DVA는 정말 큰 의미가 있는 프로젝트가 되었습니다. 이런 소중한 기회를 만들어주신 팀원분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다.
I joined the DVA project with a simple motivation: “I want my actions to help others.”
During the workshop in Jeju, someone who experienced the service said, “This will be really helpful.” Hearing those words filled me with pride and strengthened my desire to empower others even more.
To me, DVA has become a truly meaningful project. I am sincerely grateful to my team members for creating this valuable opportunity.

광주과학기술원 전기전자컴퓨터공학부 3학년까지 이수하고 현재 휴학 중입니다. 2022년 봄학기 교내 유학 프로그램으로 다녀온 UC Berekeley에서 처음으로 딥러닝에 대해 흥미를 갖는 계기가 되었고, 이후에 본교에 돌아와서도 지속적으로 프로젝트에 참여하며 관심을 이어갔습니다. CJ 올리브네트웍스 AI 연구소에서 동계인턴을 했고, 작년 7월부터 DVA LAB 1기를 거쳐 2기 활동을 진행하고 있습니다.
I have completed three years of study at the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology and am currently on a leave of absence. My interest in deep learning was sparked during a study abroad program at UC Berkeley in the spring semester of 2022. After returning to my university, I continued to participate in projects and maintained my interest in the field. I interned at CJ OliveNetworks AI Research Lab during the winter, and since July of last year, I have been involved in activities as part of the first and now the second season of the DVA Lab.

학교에서 배우던 전공으로서의 컴퓨터공학도 재밌었지만, 제가 배운 것을 바탕으로 사회에 기여하고 싶다고 늘 생각했었습니다. 그러던 도중 DVA LAB 공고를 접하게 되었고, 딥러닝을 통해 돌고래 보호에 힘쓸 수 있다는 것에 큰 관심이 생겨 지원하게 되었습니다.
I always found computer science, my major at university, interesting, but I also always wanted to contribute to society based on what I learned. During this time, I came across an announcement for the DVA Lab, and I became very interested in the opportunity to help protect dolphins through deep learning, which led me to apply.

뭐 재미난 거 없을까? 재미있는 걸 해보고 싶어서 개발자가 되었습니다. 개발자로 일하면서 재미난 곳을 찾아 현재는 모두의연구소에서 개발자로 일하고 있습니다. 재미를 중요하게 생각하는 것은 먼저 재미가 있어야 오랫동안 지속해서 할수있고 또 원하는 결과를 얻을 가능성도 높아진다고 생각하기 때문입니다.
아직도 재미난 일들을 찾고있고 앞으로도 계속 찾고있을 것 같습니다. 당신은 어떤 것에 재미를 느끼고 있나요?
Isn't there something fun to do? I became a developer because I wanted to do something fun. While working as a developer, I found a fun place and am currently working as a developer at MODULABS. The reason why I think fun is important is because I believe that if you have fun, you can continue doing it for a long time and also increase the chances of getting the desired results.
I am still looking for fun things to do and I think I will continue to look for them in the future. What do you find fun about?
Why I Joined DVA LAB | DVA LAB에 합류한 이유
돌고래를 보호하겠다는 큰 뜻을 품고 DVA LAB에 합류한 것은 아닙니다. 동물원에 가서도 돌고래를 볼수없어서 돌고래들은 다 어디에 있는걸까? 잠깐 고민 해본적은 있었습니다.
요즘 제가 관심가지고 있는 주제가 MLOps 였고 프로젝트로 MLOps 엔지니어를 경험해보고 싶었습니다. 모두의연구소에서 진행중인 DVA LAB 1기를 알고있었고 2기에서 MLOps 엔지니어를 찾고있었습니다. 단순한 동기에서 시작했지만 같이 하는 동료분들의 열정적인 모습에 저도 이 프로젝트 취지에 공감하게 되고 더 많은 시간을 투자하게 되었습니다.
I did not join DVA LAB with a big intention to protect dolphins. I can't see dolphins even when I go to the zoo. Where are all the dolphins? I thought about it for a while. The topic I'm interested in these days is MLOps, and I wanted to experience being an MLOps engineer through a project. I was aware of the 1st DVA LAB in progress at Everyone's Lab and was looking for an MLOps engineer for the 2nd phase.
It started with a simple motivation, but thanks to the passion of my colleagues, I also sympathized with the purpose of this project and invested more time.

I’ve always sought meaningful work. Through the DVA Lab project, I connected with inspiring individuals who recharged my energy and broadened my perspective. Along the way, I also found myself falling in love with dolphins.

DVA LAB을 시작하기 전에는 돌고래와같은생명체들은 크게접하기어렵다고생각했습니다. DVA LAB을 하면서 돌고래들의 생태계와 환경에 대해 알게 되었고 기술로써 그들의 삶을 지켜줄 수 있다는 것이 뿌듯하고 자부심을 느낄 수 있을것 같다는 기분이 들었습니다.
Before joining the DVA LAB, I thought it would be difficult to interact closely with creatures like dolphins. However, through my experience at DVA LAB, I have learned about the ecosystems and environments of dolphins. It fills me with pride and a sense of fulfillment to know that technology can be used to protect their lives and habitats.

어렸을 때는 곤충과 동물을 연구하고 싶었습니다. 평범한 아이들처럼 생태학자, 수의사, 도시계획가 등 여러 장래희망을 거쳐 지금은 광고기술 분야의 데이터 사이언티스트로 일하고 있습니다.
하지만 돌고 돌아 사이드 프로젝트로나마 야생동물과 관련된 일을 하게 되었네요. 다양한 관심사가 점차 하나로 모이고 숙성되어 가는 느낌입니다. 사람이 동물을 너무 힘들게 하지 않으면서도 행복할 수 있는 길을 찾고 싶습니다.
As a child, I dreamed of studying insects and animals. Like most kids, I went through various career aspirations—from becoming an ecologist, a veterinarian, to an urban planner—before eventually finding myself working as a data scientist in the ad tech industry.
Yet, in a full circle, I’ve found myself working on a side project related to wildlife. It feels as though my diverse interests are gradually converging and maturing. I hope to find ways for humans to live happily without causing undue harm to animals.
Why I Joined DVA LAB | DVA LAB에 합류한 이유
'바다'라는 너무나 다른 곳에 살아가는 돌고래는 신비의 대상이었습니다. 아름답다고는 생각했지만 가깝지는 않았습니다. 제가 공부하고 업으로 삼은 기술이 그들을 위해 사용될 수 있다고 들었을 때 조금이나마 그들과 가까워지는 기분이 들었습니다. 앞으로 돌고래와는 정말 다른 삶을 살아가겠지만 저만의 방식으로 다른 생명체를 위해 조금씩 기여해나가려고 합니다.
Dolphins, living in the vast and mysterious ocean, have always been a source of wonder. While I found them beautiful, they felt distant and unreachable. When I learned that the skills I’ve studied and turned into my profession could be used to help them, I felt a small but meaningful connection to their world. Though we will continue to live vastly different lives, I hope to contribute, in my own way, to the well-being of other living creatures.

ML 모델 성능을 개선하는 인턴을 하고 딥러닝을 적용한 졸업논문을 작성하면서 관심을 가지게 되었고, ML 엔지니어로 커리어를 3년간 쌓아왔습니다.
I majored in Physics and pursued a double major in Big Data Convergence, where I studied data analytics. I gained interest in machine learning while working as an intern to improve ML model performance and writing my graduation thesis applying deep learning. Since then, I have built a career as an ML engineer for three years.
